Tips for Creating Community

When Latina Made Not Maid started back in 2017, Erika and I connected with so many amazing women from all over the tri-state area. As the movement grew and gained connections via social media, we were able to talk to women from all across the country that felt as passionate about our culture as we did.

Fast forward to almost five years later and many of the women that I have met have become friends. There are entrepreneurs, leaders, fitness trainers, make up artists, motivational speakers, business owners, educators, and more that I can reach out to, at any moment, for support and collaboration.

These are some things that have helped me connect with some really inspiring women in the last few years.

Engage! Social media is for, you guessed it. Being social!! Make friends, reach out, collaborate and connect with like minded individuals who have similar interests and goals as the platform you are trying to create. You can help one another grow and promote one another on your individual pages. The best part? You end up with a great social network of friendships!

Comment, click, like!

You want to make sure that you are using your page to do more than just post. Take time to comment, like, and support others. Maybe it’s an emoji or full on conversation, you want to make sure to interact with others to really create a sense of community.

Ask questions…

Whether your asking in your captions or polling in your stories, take the pulse of your audience. Get their opinions, give them options, ask for their advice. Doing this will help your community feel like they are a part of your platform in a really meaningful way.

Be a storyteller!

People LOVE stories! Share the in’s and out’s of your day to help followers be present throughout the process. It doesn’t matter if you’re shipping goods, at an event, or getting a manicure – share it! Your community will enjoy the authenticity of your personality and what you really do throughout your day.

Hashtags!

Use hashtags! Instagram lets you use about 30 of them, and it helps others find you, so why not? Check out the tags that other people in your given area of interest are using. For example, I use #Latina because that is the audience I’m going for.  And I also use, #womenempowerment because of the messaging of the brand.
