Being calm and having peace of mind is not easy, especially with all of the things going on in the world! However, it is possible! As a single mom, with a full time job, I have definitely not been ZEN all of the time. Balance is tough with our new normal offhand sanitizing before and after everything, remote learning, working from home, and remembering the mask before getting in the car (on top of the regular craziness of everyday life). But this is what has worked for me…
HAVE A MORNING ROUTINE
Waking up an extra half hour earlier can help A LOT. As amazing as sleep can be, having a quiet moment to yourself, before anyone else in your house wakes up, feels incredible. You can get up and have a cup of coffee in peace, journal, meditate, have a gratitude practice, watch a motivational video on YouTube. Whatever! The point is that you start your day of in PEACE with some ME TIME.
DO NOT WATCH THE NEWS
Watching the news will put you in a downward spiral! I went as far as even telling my friends not to tell me what they saw on the news. Instead, I’ll check a news app on my phone, quickly read headlines, and keep it moving. Five minutes of news and thassit!
CUSTOMIZE YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA EXPERIENCE
You can MUTE anyone that triggers you. That includes friends, family, coworkers, celebrities, etc. Follow pages that are motivational or entertaining to you. If you like cooking, following cooking pages, if you like home decor, follow those. If you like watching videos of cute cats, go for it. Whatever makes you smile can make your social media experience super fun and not one of constant comparison or FOMO.
